The Bloomreach Engagement cookie is a soft ID the platform creates for each browser or device, so anonymous visits are tracked to a profile until a hard ID such as an email is known.

Also known as
Bloomreach cookie; cookie soft ID; Engagement cookie
On a first visit the platform creates a new cookie and a new anonymous profile. When that visitor later logs in or buys, the cookie attaches to the identified profile as a soft ID and the earlier activity joins it. One person can hold many cookies, one per device or browser. The limit is 64 of the same type; after that the one unused for longest is dropped. A cookie expires three years after it was last tracked, unless the JavaScript SDK sets a different lifetime.
In practice
Before you rely on visitor counts, check how consent gating affects cookie creation on your site. A cookie can only be tracked after the visitor consents, so pre-consent browsing produces no profile and is missing from the numbers.
