Data Ownership

Data ownership names the person or team responsible for a data source or field: that it arrives, is correct, and changes to it are announced before they ship. In a CDP program every event source has an owner on the engineering side and the platform as a whole has an owner on the marketing side.

In practice

Write the owner next to every source in the tracking plan and agree one rule: no release that touches a tracked field without a message to the platform owner first. The silent breaks after go-live we see most often are an unowned source changing shape.
