A metric in Bloomreach Engagement is a saved definition of a number, such as total revenue or conversion rate, computed from event data and reused across reports and dashboards. A simple metric aggregates one event type, for example `sum > purchase > total_price`. A formula combines several simple metrics with arithmetic. Each metric can carry its own event filter, customer filter and date filter. The common failure is a date filter saved inside the metric that nobody remembers. The report then shows a narrower period than its own date picker says.

In practice
Leave the date filter out of the metric definition and set it in the report or dashboard instead. To count unique buyers, use count > purchase with the first-occurrence toggle instead of a customer count plus a filter. The two can return different numbers.
