RCS campaigns are Bloomreach Engagement messages sent over Rich Communication Services (RCS), the carrier standard that upgrades SMS. RCS adds images, video, reply buttons, carousels, and a verified brand name and logo in the thread.

Delivery needs three things: a supported device (iOS 18.1 or Android 9.0 and later), a data connection, and a carrier that supports RCS. When any of the three is missing, the message falls back to SMS and is charged at SMS rates. The message type (basic, single or conversational) and the billing model are fixed by the RCS agent, the sender identity registered with the provider. They are not chosen per message, and the billing model cannot be changed after registration. Replies, read receipts and button clicks are tracked, which is the main data gain over SMS.
In practice
Watch the SMS fallback share in the first weeks. Coverage varies by country and carrier, so a campaign designed around a carousel can reach a large part of the audience as plain text with no buttons at all.
