Retentions is the Bloomreach Engagement analysis that shows, cohort by cohort, what share of customers who took an initial event came back later to take a returning event. Examples are a `session_start` followed by another `session_start`, or a first `purchase` followed by a second.

Also known as
retention analysis; retention table; retention cohort
Rows are time cohorts, grouped by when customers first took the initial step. Columns are the periods (days, weeks or months) in which they returned, and cells hold the percentage. Three views read the same table differently. Survival counts anyone who returned in that period or later, exact counts that period only, and saturation counts that period or earlier. The date filter sets how far back the analysis looks and defaults to 7 days.
In practice
Pick the returning period to match the buying cycle before reading any number. A daily grid on an electronics store shows mostly zeros. Use the customer filter to isolate one acquisition campaign and read its repurchase curve against the base.
